The LegendListen to an actual account of the legend:
Before the Stocker family owned the cornfields, it belonged to the eccentric Slasher family. The family raised livestock, grew corn, and even owned a mortuary. The Slashers kept to themselves; many considered them anti-social...some say twisted.
After the first World War, the city found the Slasher fields fallow. In a bold move, the city of Snohomish offered the Slasher property to McFalin’s Traveling Carnival and Sideshow of Human Oddities.
The Carnival delighted the townspeople; an entertaining distraction after the great World War and terrible city fires. Furious with the loss of their land, the Slashers did their best to scare off Carnival customers and intimidate the sideshow employees. The feud raged on for years, until the great Carnival of Carnage in 1923.
On an October night in 1923, when the river fog was thick, the enraged Slashers carried out a malevolent and sinister plan. Two Slasher brothers, disguised as clowns, infiltrated the Carnival and set the big top tent ablaze; with the audience, animals and some of the performers locked helplessly inside. Only a hand full of spectators and Carnival workers escaped. Many disappeared into the cornfields.
In 1924, Snohomish wanted to wipe clean the tragic events and it was rumored that Mayor Gleck ordered the valley to be flooded. The WWI chemical depot, the sewer, the outlying farms, and the remanents of the Carnival and Slasher family were washed away. But legends have a way of returning.
We've seen the evidence and we welcome you to our cornfield to explore the Slasher’s decrepit homestead, pass through the swamp and slip into the remains of McFalin's carnival. Step backwards in time and you may even see evidence of the fire that consumed most of McFalin’s Traveling Carnival and Sideshow of Human Oddities. Some say the ground at Stocker Farms is haunted, that body parts and bones surface as the corn pushes up to greet the sun and that horrible things lurk in the corn.
We are corn. Corn fed horror every October!
